Solo pochi mesi fa era scoppiata la polemica per la sua esclusione dai Grammy, dopo la sua partecipazione all’Halftime Show del Super Bowl, ora però Abel Makonen Tesfaye (suo vero nome) ha avuto la sua giusta consacrazione.
The Weeknd si è portato a casa i prestigiosi premi come Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Male Artist, Top R&B Album, Top Hot 100 Song, Top Radio Song e Top R&B Song, battendo mostri sacri come Taylor Swift, Drake, Dua Lipa, Harry Styles e Justin Bieber.

Dopo l’anticipazione sui social, i BTS si sono esibiti nel nuovo singolo “Butter” e si sono aggiudicati i premi per Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Social Artist. Ottimi risultati anche per Taylor Swift che si è portata a casa due statuetta per Top Female Artist e Top Billboard 200 Artist, mentre Lady Gaga ha trionfato con “Chromatica” nelle categorie Top Dance/Electronic Artist e Top Dance/Electronic Album.
A P!nk è andato l’Icon Award, ovvero il riconoscimento alla carriera e ha voluto esortare il pubblico a credere nei propri sogni: “Sognate in grande, perché poi i sogni potrebbero avverarsi”, ha detto al ritiro del premio.
